Dear Readers
In the first six months of this year it was particularly evident that the raw material industry is very agile and active. Not only three large fairs - Bauma, Powtech and IFAT - took place in May and June, but also many associations held their conferences. This is also reflected in the category “Follow-Ups” in this issue, which includes, amongst other things, the summaries of the contents of the 10th Saxon Raw Material Day (p. 18), of the annual meeting of the German lime industry BVK (p. 24) and of the 15th Raw Material Colloquium in Schönebeck (p. 28). An important topic at most of these events was the acceptance of the raw material industry by the general public as well as the recruitment of junior qualified personnel based on modern teaching and research methods. The article Flotation ’15 (p. 16) describes an interesting review of this event that took place in Cape Town/South Africa in November of last year.
In addition to many interesting contributions in the category “Focus Industry”, two specialist articles in this issue deal with the granulation of coal (p. 52) as well as with “China’s overcapacities” (p. 58). The enormous growth in China has suddenly come to an end. The article describes current developments in some branches of the mining industry. The subtitle “New alignment of the mining industry” makes for exciting and informative reading.
Wishing you an interesting and enjoyable summer
