Sustainable cooperation in the tyre market for construction machinery
18.10.2022Marangoni Retreading Systems Deutschland GmbH presents itself at bauma as a partner for the sale of new Westlake tyres in the DACH region – and thus becomes a full-range supplier of OTR tyres. By working together, both companies can offer a coherent concept for the sustainable, i.e. resource and cost-saving use of tyres over the entire service life of construction machinery.

The OTR tyre market is in transition. There is a demand for full-range suppliers who can meet all of their customers' requirements and always offer an alternative - both new and retreaded tyres and ideally other products and services related to the topic of "tyres".
At the same time, sustainability is on the agenda of more and more companies in the construction industry. A central concern is the careful use of resources. This includes considering whether new or retreaded products are used when changing tyres on construction machinery – and the question of how durable they are.
The complete OTR tyre solution
Marangoni, a world leader in retreads headquartered in Italy, is driving these trends in the OTR market. Three years ago, the German subsidiary Marangoni Retreading Systems Deutschland GmbH (MRSD) were appointed as the exclusive distributors of "Westlake" tyres by the Chinese manufacturer Zhongce Rubber Group Co. Ltd., headquartered in Hangzhou, China for Germany, Austria and Switzerland. At the same time, Marangoni SpA were appointed as the exclusive distributors of Westlake OTR tyres in Italy.
Marangoni did not make the choice of the new tyres manufacturer easy for itself. Clemens Zimmermann, Manager of Marangoni: "In addition to the quality, which we checked very intensively, the ability to be retreaded was of course a central criterion. We have found that Westlake OTR tyre casings are excellent for hot retreading using our system. The cooperation is therefore a 'perfect match'. In other words, we bring the best of both worlds together.”

No competition between new and retreaded tyres
With the sales cooperation, Marangoni Retreading Systems is also setting an example regarding the competition between new and retreaded tyres: a topic often invoked in the past. Christoph Brinkmann, Sales Manager OTR: “Thinking like this is not enough. We consider the entire life cycle of a construction machine or tyre. If you buy Westlake tyres from a specialist dealer and have them fitted, you can use them for a long time thanks to their high quality. At the end of their life cycle, the user can return the tyres to us – again via the dealer – because we offer premium retreading to all Westlake OTR partners in Europe. We retread the tyres according to the highest quality standards, which is associated with lower costs and much lower consumption of resources. This results in the best balance from the user’s point of view over the service life of the tyre – financially, technically and from the point of view of sustainability.”
A win-win solution
According to Zimmermann, everyone involved benefits from this approach: “Westlake can offer OTR tyres with the retread option, which we then take over. The dealer has the full range and ultimately offers a tyre solution instead of individual, either new or retreaded tyres. And the user of the construction machine saves costs and improves his sustainability balance. After all, replacing a casing saves up to 80 % resources compared to a new tyre.”
From Marangoni's point of view, this cooperation brings together what belongs together – also at the bauma in Munich, where MRSD is a co-exhibitor at the Westlake stand in Hall 6, Stand A 114. And, regarding the additional products and services mentioned above, MRSD has expanded its range of solutions for the construction machinery users with an easy-to-retrofit tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) that detects and reports pressure losses and thus also contributes to the long service life of the tyres.
