On-board weighing systems from VEI
At its core, VEI GmbH, which was founded in 2004, focuses on “staying close to daily operations” with its technical solutions, as Volker Augustin, Managing Director of VEI GmbH, explains. “Be it in quarries, in traditional civil engineering and mining, in sand and gravel or in the harbour and logistics segment – with our weighing technology, we operate in industries that simply don’t have time for half measures. Our products must function reliably, be easy to use and help to make individual work processes more efficient. To achieve this, we need user-centred development and the ability to listen to the people on site.”
Above all, this means that highly developed technology only makes sense if it is tailored to the area of application under real conditions. In fact, the parent company VEI has equipped more than 60 000 machines with its solutions since it was founded in 1986 – and this success is primarily based on keeping the distance between manufacturer and user as short as possible. This is noticeable in the service, for example: “Instead of acting anonymously from a distance, we try to personalise our approach to each customer. We need to know the typical work processes and scrutinise how and where our technology can be further improved.”
The current product portfolio
VEI’s repertoire includes on-board weighing systems such as “HelperM”: the entry-level model stands for high safety, simple operation and optimum loading. “HelperX”, on the other hand, is a high-end solution that has been specially developed for production, handling and sales monitoring – “HelperXE” is a system that uses CANBUS technology for its own sensors and is customised for hydraulic excavators and refuse collection vehicles. VEI has also developed an entry-level model for legal-for-trade weighing: “Millennium5” is a system for production monitoring and loading that is considered reliable and highly precise. To combine the weighing system with effective overload protection, VEI has launched “trueload” for lorries and delivery vans. However, the manufacturer’s portfolio also includes “Vkiosk” for professional access control and the receipt of loading orders as well as “Ipotweb.com”, a powerful online portal – it connects the loading machines to receive movements in real time and send loading orders.
Reliable and robust
The weighing systems have one thing in common: they are designed for user-friendliness, are based on a modular concept to adapt them to the respective work requirements and prove to be extremely reliable components that have been specially designed for use in extremely harsh environments. The mechanical keyboard, for example, is equipped with intuitive keys so that users can use it even when wearing gloves – what’s more, additional components can be added surprisingly quickly if required. Systems such as “HelperX” are also insensitive to vibrations, extreme temperatures from -40°C to +80°C, as well as dust or moisture. And this is precisely what emphasises the self-imposed objective: “Our VEI solutions should not only look smart and meet the technical requirements – they should be practical, durable and, above all, useful helpers that deliver exactly what was promised,” as Volker Augustin concludes.
