Mining 4.0
Dear readers,
The use of digitalisation and artificial intelligence (AI) in mining promises huge potential for improved efficiency, lower emissions, lower resource consumption, improved work safety, friendlier working conditions, and cost savings as well. The technical article by Dr Joachim Harder on “Development of digitalisation and AI in the raw materials sector” from p. 52 gives – using the example of leading mining companies – an overview of the goals of these companies with regard to digitalisation and AI, what status has been achieved so far and where the journey is headed.
The second technical article from Martin Engineering from p. 44 deals with practical solutions for optimising the operation of conveyor belt systems. It shows which operating factors – such as the way in which the conveyed goods settle when loaded – influence the troughing angle of a conveyor belt, how the troughing angle represents a wear factor and how this can be remedied.
Further contributions address current topics from the areas of wet and dry processing of primary and secondary mineral raw materials, or deal with sorting technologies, sludge dewatering systems, wear protection and much more.
