Clean separation even with direct feeding

In the summer of 2022, OTTO DÖRNER purchased the first SBR4 construction material recycling screen for the Hanover site. Construction waste-soil mixtures are screened with a 25 x 25 mm square mesh to prepare them for crushing. What used to be done with hydraulic screening buckets on the excavator is now done much more economically with a Volvo L120H wheel loader and electrically operated SBR4. Throughput rates have been significantly increased and costs per tonne reduced. Wear in the crusher is reduced and the RC product is of higher quality.

OTTO DÖRNER is a leading company in northern Germany in the fields of waste disposal, recycling, gravel and sand, and landfill operation. The company employs a total of over 1100 people. By dispensing with conveyor technology at the screening plant, this works in a very confined space on the company premises in Hanover. The material is removed at the same place as it is fed. The travel distances are minimised. The length of the screening section and high excitation capacity enable fast feeding and a clean separation cut despite the direct feed. The patented bar sizer protects the screen deck robustly and safely. Dirk Brennecke, Managing Director of the Hanover site, judged immediately after the first shovels: “This will save us a lot of time and money.” At the same time, the operation is absolutely flexible due to the sensor control of the SBR4. For example, if the wheel loader has to load trucks, the building material recycling screen switches itself off after a short time and automatically switches on again as soon as the wheel loader approaches for loading.

Processing building materials is an important measure to protect the environment. By reprocessing building materials, waste is avoided and new building materials are obtained. The use of new resources is reduced, which in turn protects the environment. Disposal and procurement costs are saved.

The positive verdict from Hanover for the simple screening technology from Dresden met with enthusiasm in the OTTO DÖRNER company. In December, the second SBR4 was put into operation at the Hittfeld site, south of Hamburg. In January, the third machine was handed over at the Nützen site, north of Hamburg. In Nützen, the machine is used in conjunction with a Liebherr 576 wheel loader with a bucket volume of approx. 5 m³ and produces the 0 – 45 cut. The SBR4 construction material recycling screen proved to be a powerful tool for the preservation of waste materials, even though the screened material was considerably wetter and less sandy and the shovel capacity was larger. With the SBR4, construction materials such as rubble, asphalt, soil and other building materials can be recycled flexibly, quickly and in a cost-effective process. The SBR4 is unique in its size and robustness. It is used individually or in combination with other screening and crushing plants. Electrification of the screening plant ensures the lowest operating costs and the smallest possible carbon footprint.

“Compared to our large, diesel-powered and technically more complex processing plants, we save on operating and wear costs,” says Philipp Langbehn, Purchasing OTTO DÖRNER. And he further notes that “the SBR4 offers the possibility of utilising the capacities of the wheel loaders at any time thanks to the sensor control”. At the RecyclingAKTIV/TiefbauLIVE in Karlsruhe, EAG will present not only the large SBR4 model but also the smaller SBR3 construction material recycling screen for wheel loaders with 5 – 10 t operating weight.
