Bulk materials must flow in order to transport materials from A to B. However, it is counterproductive if, for example, material bridges form in silos or bunkers and thus interrupt the material flow. This impairs the function of process systems. This leads to expensive production downtime and costs are incurred to get the material flowing again. B+W Gesellschaft für Innovative Produkte has developed its Matakt air blast devices, also often referred to as air cannons, specifically to solve these problems. A large selection of components is available for customised applications.

The specialist supplier from Bottrop offers the system, consisting of a pressurised container with quick-closing valve, control unit with safety device and various blow-out nozzles, as a turnkey solution with installation.

To eliminate the fault, pressurised air tanks are attached to the outside of the hopper, silo or bunker walls. Holes with a diameter of approx. 80 mm are drilled through the walls near the low-flow zones. A 2 1/2” pressure hose then establishes the connection between the pressurised container and the discharge nozzle, which is attached inside the silo. The stored air energy is then blown through this large pipe cross-section into the critical material zones in milliseconds through the blow-out head. The blast of air loosens the stuck material and allows it to flow again under gravity.

A 1/2” compressed air line and a collective cable for controlling the valves are laid to the pressure tank. The control unit, in which all safety and compressed air maintenance equipment is also integrated, controls the firing valves on the pressurised containers. They can be controlled manually via a pushbutton, fully automatically or via fault messages. There is no easier way to rectify faults in the material flow.
