From bulk solids to the silo
Already for the 5th time the course “From bulk solids to the silo” of the BrunswickAdvanced TechnicalCollege directed by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dietmar Schulze will take place from 08.–09.02.2010. Almost all industries deal with powders or bulk solids, reaching from powder varnishing to foodstuffs, from nanopowders and pharmaceutical materials to bulk commodities, such as cement, coal and ore, from dry materials such as filter ash up to wet bulk solids, such as filter cake, loam and clay. All these materials have to be transported, stored, proportioned or handled otherwise. The characterization of powders and bulk solids plays an important role as regards the flow properties. In particular when discharging powders and bulk solids from silos, feed hoppers, transfer containers etc. problems such as flow failures, segregation or discontinuous flow (flushing) may occur. So as to avoid these problems, solutions must be found taking into account the properties of the bulk solids. Taking this situation as a starting point, the course will deal with the problems that time and again arise when developing, manufacturing, handling and storing powders and bulk solids.
