Characterization and storage of powders and bulk solids
University course “From bulk solids to the silo”, Brunswick/Germany (21.-22.02.2011)
Almost all industries deal with powders or bulk solids, from powder enamel up to bulk goods such as cement, coal and ore, from dry materials such as filter ash up to moist bulk solids such as filter cake, loam and clay. All these materials have to be transported, stored, proportioned or otherwise handled. The characterization of the rheological properties plays an important role, amongst other things, within the framework of product development, customer support and finally also regarding the handling of customer complaints. Under the direction of Prof. Dr. Dietmar Schulze, Brunswick/Wolfenbüttel University of Applied Sciences, the university course will deal with the rheological properties of powders and bulk solids, and, based on this, will explain the practical configuration of silos, hoppers etc. to avoid undesired problems during operation. So as to avoid these problems, solutions have to be found taking into account the properties of the bulk solids. Based on this situation, the course will deal with problems which occur again and again during the development, manufacture, handling and storage of powders and bulk solids.
