ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe opens new warehouse in Taiwan
ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe recently opened a new warehouse in Taiwan (Fig.). XAR® heavy plate can now be supplied just in time throughout Asia and beyond. With the opening of the warehouse in Kaohsiung, the Heavy Plate Unit of ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe has positioned itself in Taiwan’s second biggest city. With a direct link to the country’s principal container port, the company benefits from access to central supply routes throughout Asia – mainly China, Korea and Vietnam. In 2007 the port handled 10.2 million twenty-foot equivalent units and is now one of the ten largest container ports in the world. The warehouse in Taiwan will support the Heavy Plate Unit’s business with Asian customers at local level, specifically in the area of wear-resistant steels.
The warehouse opened last fiscal year after just six months preparation. In the start-up phase the 2000 square meter building will store 1000 metric tons of heavy plate – rising ultimately to up to 3000 tons. The XAR® wear-resistant plate will be supplied directly from Duisburg-Hüttenheim, with a transit time of around 35 days.
