Reliable material assessment
Computer-aided modelling of the wear behaviour of heavy plate made from high-strength structural steelsSummary: In industrial machinery and equipment subject to wear, heavy plate is used to provide high resistance against the wear. ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe AG supplies a wide range of wear-resistant XAR steels as heavy plate in thicknesses up to 100 mm. Typical applications are equipment for the extraction and processing of resources such as coal, ore, rock, etc. The paper reports on a newly developed mathematical model that can be used for a detailed and realistic estimation of the wear behaviour of the steels. This provides effective support for material selection and application.
1 Introduction
To gauge the reliability of wear-resistant steels in structural applications, knowledge of the wear behaviour and the expected durability in the active operating conditions is of paramount importance. The wear behaviour of heavy plate depends both on the material properties, especially the hardness, the properties of the counter body and the ambient medium as well as design constraints.
Calculation-based estimation of the wear behaviour of structural steels exposed to wear as a function of the material properties, the counter material and the ambient conditions is very important...
