The 2nd edition of SYMPHOS, the International Symposium on Innovation and Technology in the Phosphate industry, will be held in Agadir, Morocco, on 06.-10.05.2013. After a successful first edition in 2011 (Fig. 1 and Fig. 2), SYMPHOS stands today as the phosphate industry event of the year that offers the richest technical content and the participation of high profile scientific authorities in the field all of which is organized with the benefit of high-level logistics. World renowned experts, scientists, engineers and professionals from active firms in the phosphate industry will meat at the congress to explore innovative ideas and technologies and provide a platform for vibrant discussion among over a thousand attendees.
The committees that ensure the organization of SYMPHOS 2013 prepared a technical program that will cover all the tendencies and orientations of the future of this industry. Through plenary lectures and workshops, the latest technologies and scientific knowledge in various fields will be discussed, starting from geology, mining, chemistry of phosphates and derivatives.
Symphos 2013 proposes 6 plenary lectures led by experts and actors from different fields of the industry, 10 high-level keynotes, 98 presentations surrounding 15 themes such as the environment, the energy, the sustainable development, agriculture and fertilizers, 10 workshops addressing the phosphate industry challenges from the mining to chemicals covering important and actual problems of the sector. SYMPHOS 2013 provides a selection of 9 specialized one day long courses, on topics of interest to different stakeholders in the phosphate industry, delivered by recognized experts in their fields. These courses will provide a unique opportunity to strengthen theoretical foundations and practical skills on various topics, while providing plenty of room for interaction and exchange of experiences between participants.
Five show sessions will allow innovative actors to showcase their company, collaborators, strategy and their most innovating projects, in a well-organized framework to a targeted professional audience and for the attendees to discover the best innovations of the industry leaders. Visits to the OCP sites are scheduled for May 6, to discover Khouribga mine, the world capital of phosphates, and Jorf-Lasfar phosphate hub, the greatest industrial site in the realm of phosphoric acid and fertilizer manufacturing.
After the remarkable success of the exhibition area of SYMPHOS 2011, the organizing committee decided to keep this space as a major attraction of the event: 100 exhibition booths dedicated to the phosphate industry leaders, engineers, equipment manufacturers, suppliers, and many other actors in the sector (Fig. 3).
