MBA Instruments GmbH to
present certified rotating paddle series

At this year’s POWTECH, MBA Instruments GmbH will present the professional audience with metering solutions that offer reliable explosion protection. The digital rotating paddle series MBA800 meets the ATEX regulations 94/9/EG (Fig.) With the completion of the ATEX certification process, the suitability of the fill level indicator for dust explosion areas has now been confirmed. The series belongs to the ATEX device category 2D (zone 21). The shaft of the fill level indicator, which is driven by an integrated stepper motor, corresponds to device category 1D and can thus be used in zone 20, provided the devices are installed in a suitable partition wall via the process connection and the installation ensures zone separation. The whole series complies with the latest regulations of EN 60079-0:2012 + A11:2013 and EN 60079-31:2014.

It is for the first time that MBA has used a stepper motor for the rotating paddle series MBA800, which triggers a real technological change. The patented drive is equipped with an integrated magnet slip clutch that provides many measuring advantages and considerably expands their scope of application. The rotating paddle takes measurements irrespective of whether the bulk material is light or heavy, whether it falls permanently onto the paddle or whether the device is directly installed into the bulk flow. The change of the rotation direction is a decisive function: if, for example, bulk material falls onto the paddle of the horizontally installed device, it will pause and change its rotation to the opposite direction until bulk material continuous to fall onto the paddle. The paddle will swing back and forth until it is blocked in both rotational directions. Only then, a signal is triggered off. With this technology, the rotating paddle is maintenance-free and works precisely in almost all kinds of bulk material.
