Iron Ore 2013 – Shifting the Paradigm
Iron Ore 2013, taking place from 12-14 August 2013 in Perth/Australia, is the sixth in a successful international conference series (Fig.) that features the latest developments in the genesis, geology, exploration, mining and processing of iron ores, including new projects now under development and the market outlook. It will bring together geologists, geoscientists, mineralogists, metallurgists, managers, engineers, operators, equipment manufacturers and reagent suppliers involved in all technical aspects of the iron ore industry from ore genesis through to mining and processing. Once again, the conference is being jointly organised by The Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (The AusIMM) and CSIRO, with the support of Fluor and Rio Tinto as Platinum Sponsors and Bis Industries, SKM, Thermo Scientific and WEIR Minerals as Gold Sponsors. The conference theme is ‘Shifting the Paradigm’, which is testament to how iron ore companies are challenging existing industry practices and beliefs while expanding current operations and developing new mines based around new ore types.
This year the conference is being held at the Perth Convention Centre to accommodate the growing number of Australian and international delegates. The main topic that will be covered include exploration, geostatistics and ore reserve estimation, ore characterisation, mining, processing, project development, technical marketing, logistics, utilities, equipment and the environment. After the conference there will be a number of technical tours. Besides the opportunity to visit a number of iron ore operations in the Pilbara region of Western Australia, providing there is sufficient interest, a visit to Arrium Mining in South Australia will also be arranged. Furthermore, it will be possible to visit key iron ore laboratories in Perth.
On behalf of the Organising Committee, Dr Ralph Holmes, Conference Chair, invites all interested to participate in the conference.
