Dumper truck supports smooth extraction chain in a quarry
Hans G. Hauri KG Mineralstoffwerke has been working the quarry in Bötzingen near the Kaiserstuhl Hills since 1964. Here the company extracts the volcanic rock phonolite, which is used as aggregate in the glass, building materials and feedstuffs industry, but also for fango mud massages.
The Hauri team is actively supported by the Hitachi ZX870-3. Together with the Bell B60E dump truck, the crawler excavator makes up a real dream team for extraction. “We are really very happy with the combination,” confirms Marcus Hauri. As production manager, the grandson of the company founder is responsible for smooth operations on site. Downtime and frequent maintenance work is something he doesn’t need at his quarry, which is why he trusts in the expertise and service of Kiesel as system partner.
The Hitachi ZX870-3 has been in operation in Bötzingen for twelve years. Following its premiere at bauma 2007, it was one of the first in its series to go into service in Germany. Since then it has impressively demonstrated both efficiency and staying power, key features of the Zaxis series. “Clocking up over 9000 operating hours, the Hitachi has had just two small faults, both of which we were able to quickly fix.” The maintenance points can be easily accessed from the ground. The hood can be opened wide, which enables easy access to the engine compartment and facilitates routine maintenance work. In day-to-day operation, the standard filling level monitoring of engine oil and coolant ensures trouble-free operation.
When the previous dumper in the quarry started showing some age-related weaknesses, Kiesel account manager Ralf Gimbel didn’t hesitate and recommended the new Bell to Hauri. With all-wheel drive the articulated high-capacity production machine has proven an ideal addition to the extraction chain since autumn 2018. The B60E is an all-year-round machine with excellent off-road qualities in adverse weather conditions or in overburden. Based on the proven large-series technology, an inline six-cylinder as well as 7-gear automatic transmission ensure outstanding performance with the low consumption one has come to expect. The excellent off-road mobility with improved braking effect on slopes allow ideal teamwork in the quarry: Wherever the Hitachi is standing on its crawler tracks, the Bell can reliably drive up to and away from it.
With the new exhaust gas cleaning technology of the Bell and the fuel-saving Zaxis, Hauri sees itself as well-advised with regard to environmentally friendliness.
