Screen for operation underground

BEYER GmbH, the Viernheim-based company, looks back on over 40 years of development and production of screen and crusher technology. Now the company has met with a new challenge in a project in which its years of experience in screen engineering have proven a huge asset. DBE, Peine, operator of the repository for low to medium radioactive material in the Konrad shaft near Salzgitter, processes rock material for filling old tunnels at a depth of 1000 m. For this purpose, the cut material must be screened to a size of 0/45.

Through the trading house Baumaschinen König in Einbeck, BEYER offered DBE a solution. The particular challenge was that the screen had to be brought to its operating site at a depth of around 1000 m through a shaft measuring 3.1 m in length, 1 m in width and 1.8 m and 3.5 m respectively in height. A modified screen of the type TANDEM-GLOBETROTTER (Fig. 1) with two additional stockpiling belts measuring 15 m in length was engineered to meet this challenge. Via a feeding hopper with around 3 m3 capacity, remote-controlled oversize grid and main metering belt, the material is fed to the rail-guided screen of the size 2.5/1.25 (Fig. 2), screened into the required sizes and piled up by means of the two stockpiling belts 650/15 m or loaded into dumper trucks. Above the main belt is an overbelt magnetic separator, which removes mine fittings and other metallic materials. The new screen also meets emissions limits. To suppress dust, a NEBOLEX nebulizing system supplied by the Kirchberg-based company Terz is installed.

The screen was engineered completely in the Viernheim factory, assembled and, following acceptance by DBE, dismantled into around 30 packages, transported underground and then reassembled. In this project, BEYER GmbH’s decades of experience in Viernheim proved especially useful.
