Power and efficiency in the quarry

After a three-month selection procedure, the company Oberrheinische Baustoff GmbH (ORB) decided to order a Doosan DX420LC crawler excavator to be used in their quarry at Rickenbach (Fig.). In addition to the power of the crawler excavator, a particular criterion also was the low fuel consumption, which was the lowest of the units tested and, in one case, was even up to 35 % below that of a competitor. The combination of performance and efficiency is due to the new common-rail engine of the DX420LC. It has a power of 218 kW (297 hp) with 1800 rpm and a maximum torque of 1373 Nm with 1300 rpm. The common-rail technology and 4 valves per cylinder optimize the combustion and minimize the exhaust emission. Together with the new control system e-EPOS (Electronic Power Optimizing System), which now communicates with the engine management via a CAN (Controller Area Network), this system also reduces the fuel consumption.
