New President of the “Society of Mining Professors“

The President of the Technischen Hochschule Georg Agricola (THGA), Prof. Dr. Jürgen Kretschmann, has taken over presidency of the “Society of Mining Professors/Societät der Bergbaukunde“ (SOMP), which makes him Head of the worldwide leading association for mining sciences. “This presidency is a great honor for me. It provides the opportunity to highlight the special achievements of German coal mining – in particular in the year it comes to an end. Moreover, the issue of post-mining will come into the focus of global mining science”, says Jürgen Kretschmann.
Professor Kretschmann took over the SOMP presidency on the occasion of this year’s 29th annual meeting in Beijing, where the THGA will be host of two important conferences: already in October this year, scientists will meet at the Hochschule Bergbau in Bochum, where, in particular, the historical importance of German coal mining and of the Ruhrkohle AG for the worldwide development will be discussed. In autumn 2019, the next annual meeting will take place, which will be dedicated to the future of mining and to the issue of post-mining.
