B&W Stormajor™ for Polish mining company
A B&W, heavy duty, 800 series Stormajor™ radial boom loader has been supplied in record time to the Poznan based company, Strateg Capital Sp. z o.o. for its mining operation located in Tłumaczów in Poland (Fig.). The Stormajor™ will be used to load Melaphyre rock into open-top rail cars. Strateg Capital is a major player in the Polish minerals industry and will produce over 40 million t of the basalt-like material from the mine. The equipment was delivered within 13 weeks.
The Melaphyre rock, with a bulk density 1.6 t/m³, is received by Terex TA30 articulated dump trucks with a capacity of 30 t. However, in a second phase of the project the trucks will be replaced by mobile link conveyors which will feed the material into the Stormajor™ through a specially designed feed hopper. The Stormajor™, designed for a maximum throughput of 600 t/h, is equipped with a 15 m outloading boom and loads directly into rail cars up to a height of 5 m. The outloading boom can be slewed + or -30° and luffed from 0-30° providing great flexibility and the discharge is fitted with a variable angle trimming chute which aids even loading. Initially the Stormajor™ will be towed alongside the rail cars to facilitate loading but once the mobile link conveyors are installed the unit will remain mostly static and the rail cars will be hauled by locomotives. The unit needs only one 400 volt supply to the on-board 110 kW hydraulic power pack which drives the belt, slewing and luffing operations. The unit is mounted on rubber tyres for easy towable relocation.
