Frutiger: General overhaul of tyre washing plant

The routine check-up of the truck tyre washing plant (year of construction 2009) has now been successfully concluded at the quarry company Stricker & Weiken. The many sprinklers and the sophisticated flow-off system of the plant (price: 258 000 €) rinse stones, spalls and lumpy adhesive parts from the tyres, the body and the tarpaulins. For ecological reasons the water is recirculated. Three cisterns with a capacity of 3300 l each are used as an underground intermediate store for the discharged water. Additional fresh water will only be used to spray the tarpaulins or to keep the load wet. They operate with a water pressure of 16 bar. Cleansing agents are not used so as to conserve nature. The tyre profiles are expanded by angle steel in the tyre washing plant so that even blocked small stones and spalls can be loosened.

Within the framework of the routing check-ups now completed, small cracks were welded, pumps were overhauled and wear defects were repaired. The tyre washing plant now being used by Stricker & Weiken is already the second one. A smaller one was used from 1998 to 2009. The advantage of the new, longer tyre wash facility is not only the more advanced and efficient technology, but also, in particular, the passage length, i.e. each tyre rotates 1.5 times before it is returned to the road again with a squeezed profile and cleanly sprayed. The driveway of the plant is inclined; the exit goes slightly uphill so that the used water can be collected centrally for reuse. A sensor loop in the pavement in front of the plant starts the cleaning process when being driven over.
