HD Hyundai HX520 AL

The big yellow one in the diabase

The brothers Torsten and Olaf Bohländer have been active in quarrying for 10 years with their company Bau-Rec Bohländer GbR and currently operate a quarry in Bad Endbach Dernbach near Marburg/Germany. High-quality diabase is quarried there. The key piece of equipment is the 52 t HD Hyundai HX520AL excavator. Blasting takes place several times a year and then the new large excavator from the current Hyundai portfolio goes into action. It crushes the oversized material and loads the mobile crusher. The finished grains fall to the lower quarry floor where they are loaded onto trucks by wheel loader.

The armored 3.5 m3 bucket was bought in a package deal together with the excavator and withstands the highly abrasive material perfectly. Nils Bohländer operates “the beast”. He explains: “We saw the excavator at the steinexpo and had it demonstrated to us. I was impressed by the steel structure of carriage and boom of the upper/lower carriage as well as the sensitive hydraulics.” The quarry equipment is rounded off by 600-mm-triple grouser shoes, cylinder protection for piston rods, front protection grille and central lubrication.

The decisive factor for the purchase was the desire for a more powerful loader with a longer reach. The monoblock and 3.40 m stick now perfectly meet the requirements of Bau-Rec Bohländer GbR.

HX520AL: Heavyweight of the successful HX hydraulic excavator series

The HD Hyundai HX crawler excavator series with operating weights from 12 to 52 tons are ideal machines for civil engineering, demolition and mining. The features include:

ECO display

Stage V Cummins engine without EGR (exhaust gas recirculation)

Improved variable power control

Volume flow control for attachments can be preselected

New cooling system with higher air flow rate

Large air intake with grille cover

All-round view system AAVM (Advanced Around View Monitoring, optional)

Durable cooling module

Wear-resistant bolts, bushes and polymer washers

Intelligent control system

Proportional auxiliary hydraulics

Easy access to DEF/AdBlue supply

HiMate (machine management system, optional)

Swivel lock (optional)

Fine tilt control (optional)

Improved sustainability

Modern driveline with components from well-known manufacturers (Cummins, ZF, Rexroth etc.)

On the 8-inch touchscreen, the operator has the option of setting numerous parameters in intuitive menu items. In addition to displays and switches, many settings can be conveniently adjusted using sliders that can be displayed. There are also 18 conventional buttons below the display for activating central lubrication, idle speed, working lights, etc.

Four working modes ECO, Standard, Power and User (freely programmable by the operator) are stored in the control system and can be selected at the touch of a button. The oil quantity and pressure of up to 20 attachments can be stored in a library. The EPPR function (EPPR stands for Electronic Proportional Pressure Reduce Valve) can be used to increase the hydraulic delivery rate for power-hungry attachments by interconnecting two pumps – this configuration data is also stored in the HD Hyundai system together with the pressure and oil delivery quantity. A feature that is particularly important in demolition. Here, the operator is constantly switching between hammer, shears, pulverizer, sorting bucket, etc.

Safety is a high priority for HD Hyundai products. This is why the reversing camera comes as standard. As an option, HD Hyundai offers the AAVM (Advanced Around View Monitoring) system: Here, a 360° all-round view appears on the display, composed of image information from four cameras. The IMOD (Intelligent Moving Objects Detection) monitoring system detects objects moving around the excavator and visualizes them on the touchscreen.

HD Hyundai now manufactures many components such as travel and swing motors itself, which results in improved integration into the hydraulic system.
