Construction and earthmoving vehicles must be able to drive on both hard, paved surfaces and softer, unpaved surfaces. These requirements demand performance not only from the vehicles, their drivers and fleet managers, but above all from the vehicle tyres. Continental has two product lines on the market for these requirements: ContiEarth and ContiMine. At the trade fair in the middle of an active quarry, Continental will be showing its latest member of the ContiEarth range, which has been specially developed for loaders: the LD-Master L5 Traction. Also on show: the EM-Master for ADTs, loaders and graders, and the CompactMaster EM. “Earthmoving tyres have to deliver consistently high performance and reach their maximum service life. In addition, our digital tyre management system ContiConnect 2.0 enables smooth operation, which we will demonstrate at steinexpo,” says Reinhard Klant, product manager for earthmoving tyres at Continental Specialty Tyres. Visitors to the show will also be able to find out about the new Bluetooth-enabled sensor generation that Continental recently introduced. It enables fleet managers to read out tyre data directly via mobile devices such as the smartphone on the vehicle and transfer it to the web portal.

Digital solutions for more fleet productivity and safety
In addition to the tyre portfolio, Continental is presenting further digital solutions for operational optimisation at Steinexpo. For example, the IoT solution (IoT = “Internet of Things”) SightIQ combines asset management, process management and operator management in a single system. Regardless of make, model, year of manufacture or location, it links and analyses almost all data from mobile machines and vehicles as well as conveyor systems or tools. With SightIQ, for example, unnecessary idle time, inefficient fuel use or unfavourable times for maintenance can be identified across all plants – decisive cost factors for plant managers in quarries, mines and on construction sites. SightIQ has already been launched in the USA and is now also available in Europe.

Fleet managers will find further digital support in Continental Verified Inspection, which enables the correct performance and archiving of checks on construction vehicles and machines. The system consisting of a smartphone app and individual NFC tags (German: “Nahfeldkommunikation”, a radio technology for the contactless exchange of data over very short distances) offers plannable and efficient damage management and thus indirectly higher productivity of the machine pool. With Continental Verified Inspection, managers of construction fleets can transparently prove how reliably and accurately the daily machine inspections were carried out and thus have a complete argumentation, for example, in the event of a dispute with insurance companies. In addition, workshop mechanics and fleet managers can use the app to better plan their defect management and thus increase the operating times of the construction machines.
