Wider product offering
At the beginning of October 2013 Sandvik Construction presented its new mobile crushers and screens to customers and distributors from all Sandvik’s sales areas worldwide. A visit to Sandvik’s Ballygawley factory (Fig. 1), and live demonstrations showcasing a total of eight crushers and screens at the Barrick Hill basalt quarry (Fig. 2), gave the attendees a real insight into production and the full extend of the Sandvik mobile crushing and screening offering.
Prominent among the machines are the new QS441 (Fig. 3) und QS331 (Fig. 4) tracked crushers, part of Sandvik‘s widening “Premium” range of cone crushers with a total of four models now available. While the first two models (QH441 and QH331) are equipped with Sandvik “Hydrocones”, the new plants operate with gyratory “S” cones from Sandvik. These have proven themselves to be versatile and highly productive cone crushers in stationary applications for a good thirty years now. The two crushers, the CS440 in the QS441 model and the CS340 in the smaller QS331, are able to crush extremely hard rock with ease. Their crusher opening is twice the size of that of conventional cone crushers, and can therefore take an up to 90 % larger feed size (450 mm and 360 mm respectively).
With a choice of three crushing chambers and four bush settings (20-36 mm and 16-30 mm) to control the closed side settings and material gradation, the QS441 offers ultimate flexibility. Other advantages are the long steep crushing chamber, combined with relatively small eccentric throw with reduced wear. The “S” crushers also enable trouble-free processing of materials with a high sand content, which further increases their wide range of applications.
With a weight of 56.0 t, the Sandvik QS441 is designed for maximum throughput of 600 t/h, while the more compact QS331 (weighing 36.0 t) crushes up to 350 t/h. As such, both plants are suitable for secondary crushing in cost-efficient production of railway ballast or frost protection and as a high-performance intermediary stage for tertiary crushers. With the large feed size and high size reduction ratio of the “S” cone crushers, the upstream jaw crusher can operate more cost efficiently with lower wear.
As primary crushers, the new Sandvik cone crushers can be used, for example, in gravel processing. During operation, level sensors (fitted as standard) optimize feeding of the directly driven crushers thanks to images transmitted from a video camera; the machine operator can then reliably keep an eye on the crusher opening from the operating control panel.
With a removable screen module (around 6500 kg), the new Sandvik QI341 PrisecTM weighs around 46 t (Fig. 5), and, its compact size makes it highly suitable for transporting, even with the optional hanging screen system and slewable stockpiling conveyor (L/W/H: 17.14 x 3.0 x 3.55 m). Measuring 3.35 x 1.52 m, the single-deck screen provides around a 30 % larger screening area compared to other screens in its class, and enables the efficient on-site production of two end-products without the bottleneck effect frequently encountered with smaller secondary screens.
Twenty years ago, the first tracked scalping screen was launched, which began a revolution in mobile screening in aggregates and recycling applications.
Weighing 20 t and with compact dimensions (8.79 x 2.70 x 3.10 m), the new Sandvik QE141 scalping screen is highly mobile both on and between sites (Fig. 6). Its doubledeck vibrating screen with folding side doors and adjustable screen angle (max. 34 °) can be fitted with a wide range of screening media (open screening area 2200 x 3200 mm) plus it can be adapted precisely to the specific material and screening application.
Fed direct by means of wheel loaders, excavators or positioned downstream of a mobile primary crusher, the QE141 has wide, separately driven discharge and stockpiling belts (measuring 1200 mm/1000 mm) and guarantees high hourly rates for intermediate or defined end-products. The 3.16 m discharge height enables large stockpiling capacities or easy incorporation in plant combinations.
All functions of the Sandvik QE141 can be remote-controlled from a safe distance whilst the machine is working. The machine is quick and easy to set-up and operation is simplified through the new colour-coded sequential automatic control system. Hydraulically folding side doors and the hydraulic power pack, which swings out, both enable easy and safe access for maintenance.
