WEG takes over Württembergische Elektromotoren GmbH

With its acquisition of the German electric and geared motors manufacturer based in Balingen (Fig.), WEG is widening its product portfolio and strengthening its position in Germany. WEG has announced that the company has closed a contract agreeing the acquisition of the electric and geared motors manufacturer Württembergische Elektromotoren GmbH. The conclusion of the transaction remains subject to the usual approvals from the relevant authorities.

Württembergische Elektromotoren GmbH is a family-run company founded in 1939 with its production base in Balingen, around 75 km from Stuttgart in a key industrial region. The company manufactures and sells geared, three-phase and single-phase electric motors, DC motors up to 1000 W in power as well as servomotors. The production site covers 5000 m2, at which around 80 people are employed. The net turnover in 2013 amounted to around € 7 mill. For Siegfried Kreutzfeld, Managing Director of the Motor Division at WEG in Brazil, the acquisition of Württembergische Elektromotoren GmbH has two key advantages: “We can now offer a more extensive range of geared motors in the European market, a segment in which we have been actively involved since the takeover of Watt Drive in 2011. In addition, we gain access to a very interesting customer base directly in Europe’s industrial centre.”
