Symposium on Mineral Processing 2017
The announcement of the forthcoming Symposium on Mineral Processing from 2 to 3 March 2017, organized by the Institute of Mineral Processing Machines at Freiberg University of Mining and Technology (Fig. 1), has been sent out, and the attendees can look forward to ten fascinating papers on “Comminution and Classification – Manufacturing, Characterizing, Drying, Separating and Utilizing Products” (Fig. 2). Unlike in previous years, this year’s event will be held in the Freiberg’s Festival Hall at Obermarkt 16.
At the focus of the conference are the latest process and equipment, research findings as well as current reports from the field. One block of topics will address the optimization of comminution processes with crushers. Other papers will, for instance, present new process engineering solutions for screening, conveying, weighing and mixing systems. In addition, Prof. Dr Georg Unland, Saxony’s Minister of State for Finances, long-serving Director of the Institute of Mineral Processing Machines and former Rector of Freiberg University of Mining and Technology, is expected to hold a paper on the “Financial legacy of mining in Saxony”.
Last year’s event was notable in that it marked the 10th anniversary of the Friends and Supporters of the Institute of Mineral Processing Machines, to which more than 20 companies and individuals now belong. The Friends and Supporters has defined its mission as to foster and encourage excellently qualified professionals for the industry – e.g. with the awarding of grants, financial support for field trips and technical equipment for the Institute for teaching purposes and research. Secondly with the Friends and Supporters, an interesting network of machine and plant engineering companies as well as students was set up to bring future professionals in contact with potential employers.
The 10th anniversary of the Friends and Supporters in 2016 was also a turning point with changes on the Society’s Board (Fig, 3). The founding chairman, Dr Christoph Kemmann, BHS-Sonthofen GmbH, and his deputy Peter Grotjohann, HAVER NIAGARA GmbH, stepped down. Following an election, the baton was passed to Florian Festge, HAVER & BOECKER OHG, as Chairman and Dr.-Ing. Falk Silbermann, thyssenkrupp Industrial Solutions AG, as his deputy. A progress report on the activities under the new Board will be keenly awaited. There will be ample opportunity for lively discussion as well as for making and cultivating contacts in the breaks between the sessions and during the planned evening events.
