STEINERT Elektromagnetbau GmbH

From traditional magnetic separation technology to the latest sensor-assisted sorting, STEINERT Elektromagnetbau GmbH supplies everything to make processes for mining more exact and therefore more efficient. STEINERT sorting equipment makes it possible to enhance efficiency and lengthen the lifetime of mines. Deposits that cannot be worked viably with traditional processing methods can be made cost efficient thanks to preliminary separation of waste rock and tailings. This preserves resources and saves energy as the sorting is a dry mechanical process with a very low energy requirement. Different sensor solutions are in use worldwide. STEINERT’s XSS T X-ray technology is used very effectively in the coal and ore industry. Here the different densities of materials are used as a characteristic for identification and separation. Other solutions differentiate between materials on the basis of optical properties as such as colour (UniSort Flake), shape, surface structure or on the basis of electric conductivity.

With the combination of the sensors, all necessary possibilities are available to identify mineral properties and therefore to recover valuable materials from accessory rock. Typical examples for sensor-assisted sorting are:

• Preliminary separation of waste and tailings before the material is processed (reduces processing costs)

• Sorting and separation of waste and tailings underground

• Improvement of product quality: Degree of whiteness in fillers, calorific value of coal and higher purity of industrial minerals

• Extraction of precious stones

STEINERT Elektromagnetbau GmbH, a family-run company based in Cologne with subsidiaries and branches around the world, is a one-stop supplier for recoverable and impurity sorting systems in the mineral and recycling industries with solutions centring around magnet- and sensor-based systems. At bauma 2013 the company is focussing on sensor-based solutions for mining.

UniSort Flake is an innovation in sensor solutions, which are constantly further developed at STEINERT. At this year‘s bauma, the company plans to show interested trade visitors precisely what UniSort Flake can do for mining operations. The UniSort Flake has been specially developed for sorting fines in the size range of 3-30 mm. The material to be sorted is accelerated on a belt to a speed of more than 3 m/s. The material passes the detection level and is accurately separated by material or, as presented at bauma 2013, by colour with the help of a strip of high-speed valves. The use of a belt ensures steady throughput rates irrespective of the ballistic properties of the feed material. The latest developments in sensor and computer technology enable fast, high-resolution detection of even the smallest particles. Depending on the application, colour or NIR cameras are used. This results in different applications in minerals, metals or plastics sorting.
