Quantitative characterization of rocks to predict the influence of the rock on relevant product properties and system parameters Part 2: Selected examples

Summary: The magnitude of the influence of rock properties on selected product properties was ascertained in the first part of this article. The use of mathematical-statistical modelling made it possible to verify, examining the example of product particle shape, that there is a decisive influence (around 65 %) exerted by the overall spectrum of rock properties on the particle shape of the crushed products of a rotor centrifugal crusher. In the second part, a number of examples are selected in order to demonstrate the influence of individual rock properties on relevant product properties and system parameters.

1 The correlation between selected rock characteristics and relevant product properties

The discoveries discussed are based on correlations taken from the technical literature, on test results obtained at the Institute of Mineral Processing Machines, and on the author‘s own investigations [3, 6].

1.1 The influence of mean mineral diameter on strength

Extensive experimental investigations using a range of different rocks have been performed by numerous authors in order to determine the influence of mean mineral diameter on rock strength (e.g. compressive strength) [1, 2, 8, 10]. It was...
