Hydrogen has already been used in many industrial processes today – and the trend is rising, because hydrogen is considered a key technology for decarbonising industry and an energy carrier of the future. However, as the smallest and, therefore, lightest molecule, gaseous hydrogen has a particularly low energy density per unit volume and, thus, takes up a particularly large amount of volume. Screw compressors have already proven their worth for compression. They are particularly suitable for hydrogen compression due to the displacement principle combined with the space-saving design of a rotary machine.
