Five SKF platforms for unsurpassed customer convenience

Summary: Since the invention of the two-race self-aligning ball bearing, SKF has continued to push the boundaries of the technically possible. As a technology pioneer with a long history, SKF now unites five areas of expertise: Bearings and bearing units, seals, mechatronics, services and lubrication systems. Users in over 40 industries benefit from the synergies of this combination.

At the start of the 20th Century, maintenance engineer Sven Wingquist faced a serious problem: The machines at the textile factory he worked at in Gothenburg were constantly failing. Their drive shafts kept becoming ‘imbalanced’ due to the unstable subfloor in the manufacturing hall - and the bearings available at the time were not coping with it.

For nights at a time, Wingquist worked meticulously on a solution, until he finally found it in a two-race self-aligning ball bearing: His revolutionary angular-movement bearing was the seed of SKF. Hardly a year after the Svenska ball bearing factory...
