Extreme strength at high temperatures
SSAB has launched a highly heat-resistant variant of Hardox®. One challenge was that Hardox would also survive in the temperature range of 300 to 500 °C. Traditionally, heat-treated and wear-resistant products of steel will lose a lot of their hardness at higher temperatures. Usually, SSAB recommends the brand Toolox to remedy this problem. Toolox offers a high wear resistance and maintains its original hardness and inherent stability even at high temperatures. Though Toolox is mainly designed for exacting machine tools, e.g. for the shaping of molten brass, aluminium and glass.
Now SSAB has transferred the heat-resistant properties of Toolox to Hardox HiTemp. That is a new Hardox quality that can be ordered from September 2016. Hardox HiTemp offers a cost-effective solution for the resistance at high temperatures and will be supplied as plates of 15 to 30 mm. The material can be cut, welded and processed using the same machinery and processes as those are used for standard qualities.
