Basalt production without clamping device
When it comes to obtaining the optimum result in hard basalt crushing right away and ensuring the highest possible level of work safety, a combination of jaw crusher and hydraulic hammer is the best choice. In this combination, the Metso jaw crusher is considered as a safe and reliable piece of equipment, which enables the treatment of the required quantity of basalt material for further processing at the primary crusher.
The equipment has already proven its worth: in a new open quarry in Germany, hard and very heavy basalt with a density of 2.9 t/m³ is extracted and processed into aggregates suitable for asphalt and concrete as well as for ballast and amour stones. There, all products meet the highest quality standards.
The company’s decision to invest in a new stationary primary crusher to, afterwards, enable more flexible reactions to special customer requirements was taken in favor of a C150™ jaw crusher from Metso with hydraulic hammer (boom MB432™/hammer MH1100™), which, in 2016, was incased in an especially designed building. The building was erected on a steel foundation, which was designed for slight movements and “oscillates” slightly, if required.
Dump trucks transport the blasted basalt with unit sizes of up to 1000 mm from the quarry wall to the primary crusher plant. There, the material is removed from the bunker by means of a feeding device and reaches the jaw crusher via a primary classifying screen. The closed gap width of the C150 mostly ranges between 160 and 200 mm.
Utmost safety with hydraulic hammer
Highest work safety and trouble-free treatment processes have utmost priority in every quarry. The Metso hydraulic hammer with an output of 30 kW and a range of 4.3 m contributes to enabling the safe and fast elimination of occurring blockages in the crushing chamber of the jaw crusher.
The dump truck drivers operate the hydraulic hammer via remote control, which is coupled with the monitoring camera of the work area. In this particular case, the hydraulic hammer equipment was only used for test purposes in the first months of operation. A possible reason for this may be the fact that the grain size distribution of the blasted aggregate material was very favorable or the intake behavior of the jaw crusher C150 was such a positive surprise.
Hydraulic hammer for all Metso primary crushers
Metso hydraulic hammers are complete supplementary equipment packages, particularly designed for primary crushers. Each component part, such as boom, hammer, hydraulic aggregate and remote control were tailor-made for efficient interaction with the other components involved.
Seven hydraulic hammers of different sizes are available for the individual primary crushers from Metso - from the small C80 jaw crusher up to the large primary gyrator crusher model ‘Superior’. Depending on the model, the horizontal range of the hydraulic hammer varies between 2.9-10.5 m - with output levels of 18 kW to 55 kW. The operating weight of the hammer is between 300 kg and 2200 kg, as requested.
The most important crusher components are subject to extended manufacturer warranty (Equipment Protection Plan/EPP of Metso), according to which Metso assumes the major maintenance works, including the supply of wear parts, during a contract term of five years. The EPP contract contains e.g. inspections of all important crusher components after every 1000 operating hours.
