It has generated 2500 direct jobs and 7500 indirect jobs and has increased the national production of copper by 17 %. These numbers are clear indicators of the benefits of this ambitious project.
The Toromocho open pit mine, owned and operated by Minera Chinalco Peru S.A., a subsidiary of Aluminum Corporation of China Ltd., is located in the Morococha and Yauli ditricts of Junin Department. The mine is located in a rugged topography at an altitude between 4400 and 5000 meters above sea level.From a logistical point of view, access to the mine is through the Central Highway from Lima, which is paved up to the city of Morococha, as well as by the Central Railway.
